Questions regarding the scan process, preparation, and comfort during your appointment.
An echocardiogram is a non-invasive ultrasound scan used to look at the structure and function of the heart. It allows us to visualise the valves, the size of the chambers, and how well the heart muscle is pumping.
A standard comprehensive study typically takes between 30 to 45 minutes. Our sonographers ensure you are comfortable throughout the procedure and will explain each step as they go.
No special preparation is required. You can eat, drink, and take your medications as normal. We suggest wearing two-piece clothing (e.g., a shirt and trousers/skirt) for ease of access during the scan.
Not at all. Echocardiography uses sound waves (ultrasound) to create images. It is entirely painless, does not use radiation, and has no known side effects.
Understanding the medical referral process, Medicare rebates, and insurance coverage.
Yes. To ensure the clinical appropriateness of the scan and to be eligible for Medicare rebates, a valid referral from a registered medical practitioner (GP or Specialist) is required.
We bulk bill eligible patients who meet specific Medicare criteria. This usually requires a valid referral with appropriate clinical indications. Our liaison team can clarify your eligibility upon booking.
The images are interpreted by our consultant cardiologists. A formal report is then sent directly to your referring GP within 48-72 hours. You should book a follow-up appointment with your GP to discuss the findings.
Information for GP clinics, Aged Care facilities, and Corporate Health managers.
Our sonographers arrive with a self-contained, hospital-grade mobile ultrasound unit. We only require a quiet, private consultation room with a standard power outlet and enough space for a patient bed/plinth.
No. We provide the equipment, the staff, and the reporting cardiologists. There is no capital outlay or ongoing service fee for GP clinics or facilities partnering with us.
We prioritise rapid turnaround. Standard reports are delivered via secure messaging (HL7) within 72 hours. Urgent findings are flagged immediately to the referring practitioner by our sonographer on-site.
Our patient liaison team is available Monday to Friday to guide you through the process or assist with your specific inquiry.
